He sure was luckier than the guy my mother met at an orthopedic
hospital in Helsinki in the 70's. He had passed out on the tracks,
just like Lopez, and also "slept" through the entire episode, but woke
up in a hospital with no legs. That sounds like a possible rock bottom
experience to me.

That Helsinki drunk may yet qualify as a "real" alcoholic; merely
lowering
his bottom, is all!

Considering he lost his legs about thirty years ago, there's a good
chance he's already qualified. IIRC, my mother said he had some short
stumps left, so I guess lowering his bottom is a possibility with the
aid of appropriate prosthetics.

Surely, appropriate prosthetics would *raise* his bottom, at least
while he used them appropriately, for walking.

What else prosthetics could be utilised for is way too kinky for a
model of decorum such as I to comprehend, let alone contemplate.

Lucky Lopez, indeed. He could have been the guy in the Big Book - "we
are like men who have lost their legs - we can't grow new ones"
