AA itself doesn't frown on a person taking medicatons for a phsychological illness, but many of AA's (snotty, holier than thou type) members treat someone who is using prescription drugs, *as precscibed* and not abused, as someone who is less than them, and they are *cheating* at recovery. Smart Recovery utilizes modern science, including prescription drugs if needed, and they continue to *change* as new scientific developments are made. http://www.smartrecovery.org/ I was just at a "LifeRing" meeting, which I believe is similar, but don't qoute me on that. Unfortunatly, the meeting is new and there was only 2 people there, including me. We sort of just bullshit about our past and our particular problems with AA. Maybe soon there will be enough for a real meeting. Tono |

('members' are not referred to as alcoholics or > addicts.) It seems to me that AA's programme also aims to change behaviour. I think this because in working Step 4, I have come to better understand which of my thoughts and behaviours most likely explain why I have so often not been able to cope well with life and why I have so often disliked myself. These have been my reasons/excuses for drinking and for doing other things which I believe have harmed me. Having decided these things, I have come to believe that if I do not want to stay as I am, I'd not be doing myself any favours if I stopped working my recovery programme. At this point I'm thinking that the purpose of all recovery programmes is to change behaviour. If I'm wrong maybe someone will explain why . FWIW I think it likely that there will never be a single recovery programme that suits everyone. JB |

In omitting these words I was not being dishonest merely forgetful (g) JB. |
