I really appreciate all the support and responses to my posts. I'm
especially feeling a little bit healthier since I didn't really drink over
the weekend (except for 2 beers). I want to keep up this momentum. My
livelihood depends on it and I will be attending my first AA meeting this
week on Thursday.
Another reason for my decision to quit also has to do with being a
possible influence on my family and friends. My father has always drank,
my mother drinks occasionally and my brother is a total alcoholic. It's
sad but I feel if I stop drinking I'm sure I'll hear the "in-denial"
excuses of how it's not going to last and how I'll hit the bottle again
once the holidays come around. But once they see I'm serious, I'm hoping
for a change of heart. I have friends who are problem drinkers as well and
I know that if I quit drinking it will make them think about it at least.
In the last two years of my life I lost a friend because I had made
mention to him that I was considering quitting all together and he didn't
take too kindly to that. He's such a hardcore drinker that he was willing
to forfeit a friendship so that he could continue drinking. I feel that
not only to be a problem, but it's very selfish and rather immature of him
to feel that way. Oh well, we all have to have enemies don't we? If we
don't have enemies in our lives, we'll never learn who our true friend are.
So thanks again people and once again may all your dreams and prayers come
true.
Take care,
DC
